Position Overview
The Physical Education teacher promotes and develops successful learning, and healthful attitudes and behaviors for students in physical education for Kindergarten through eighth grades through a creative, innovative, Place-based approach. The teacher performs instructional and related duties as they pertain to the state standards in physical education. The PE teacher performs duties in accordance with ORS, SIS Policies, and the terms of the staff handbook. The PE teacher cooperates and collaborates with staff, families, and students. An SIS teacher understands and promotes the school’s Place-based mission, vision, objectives, and policies both within and outside the immediate school community. The teacher is responsible for providing a Place-Based/Project Based and Integrated instructional program that supports the individual needs of all children. Teachers use Backwards Design models and collaboration to design and implement these programs. A commitment to professional growth/learning and collaboration amongst colleagues is highly important.

Essential Job Functions:
• Responsible for ensuring that PE curriculum meets SIS philosophy, Oregon State Standards, and Common Core State Standards.
• A strong command of the physical skills necessary to teach a variety of sports games and activities.
• Develops developmentally appropriate daily lessons founded in a sense of place.
• Preparing effectively for class by checking and maintaining all PE equipment, locker rooms, and gym
• General housekeeping of the gym and locker room to ensure a clean and usable space.
• Provides instruction, organization, and management in the classroom/gym that creates a respectful environment conducive to learning, supported by PBiS principles.
• Responsible for creating and maintaining a healthy and safe environment within the classroom and the school.
• Engages in weekly Monday Late Start meetings, monthly staff meetings, and team meetings and serves on a school committee.

Part-time faculty may be eligible for PERS/OPSRP if they meet the
requirement of six months of employment and are working 600 hours
or more per year. PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a
deferred compensation program where employees may save additional
pre-tax dollars for retirement.
Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for you, your
spouse/domestic partner, and children under 24 years of age, as
well as tuition reimbursement for full-time employees at other
accredited institutions.
Paid Leave:
- 2 hours sick leave per pay period, up to 32 hours per year; a
maximum of 8 hours of accrued sick leave per academic year may be

Portland Adult Education (PAE) falls under the umbrella of Portland Public Schools (PPS) and, as such, is part of the District’s comprehensive plan, the Portland Promise. PAE aligns with the mission and goals of the district with a focus on increasing opportunities for adult learners through a broad array of programming.
PAE is the largest adult education program in Maine where students strive to improve their academic and workforce skills to strengthen their roles as citizens, taxpayers and employees. Our courses help students reach a variety of goals, from achieving a HS Diploma to improving their skills in order to get a job or a better job. Others need to improve their skills in order to enroll in college. Some students have very specific goals -- for example, to improve on the Accuplacer test (the community college placement test) or to improve their reading test score in order to get a CNA job. Because PAE serves a large population of immigrant students, many of our students have previous professional careers in other countries, and, in order to secure a job here in a related field, they need to improve their academic and professional English. PAE has the programs to meet these students’ goals. PAE seeks an Executive Director to lead the organization, set the vision and strategy, and oversee the financial health of the organization. The ED will serve as the external face of the organization and will be responsible for strategic partnerships and advocacy.

This Evening Scholars teacher provides curriculum, assessment, and instruction to students in the subject area or grade level by teaching skills, content, and critical thinking. All instruction is tied to district and state performance standards, or Common Core. Assessment of learning targets being met is continually used to adjust, inform, and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of a wide range of students, including students who are English Language Learners, Talented and Gifted Students, have diverse modes of learning, and are served by Individual Education Plans. All teachers have a desire to involve parents as partners in education and have strong collaboration and communication skills with parents and colleagues alike. All teachers are responsible for student supervision, guidance, development, and safety. All teachers follow the Portland Public Schools policies, rules, and regulations.
Most Evening Scholars students are behind in credits or are seeking credit recovery. This position includes observation and informal evaluation conducted by the administrator.
THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION FOR THE EVENING SCHOLARS PROGRAM: Courses and classes are contingent upon adequate student enrollment. It is essential that applicants remain available until the registration process is complete. We will, however, make earlier commitments as definite positions become evident. • Provides instruction to students at appropriate levels in the subject matter for which the teacher is assigned.

• Evaluates the student's academic progress by following a proficiency grading model that focuses on students meeting specific learning targets, as well as maintains appropriate records, prepares reports, and communicates with parents or guardians on the individual students’ progress.

POSITION SUMMARY:
These positions are temporary for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year. One position is for grades K-6, and the other is for grades 6-8.
The PPS Online Learning Academy (OLA) teacher is responsible for organizing and implementing the online instructional program in accordance with PPS Online Learning Academy guidelines and state policies and laws that result in students achieving academic success. The OLA education is required to work collaboratively to plan, prepare and implement online instructional activities to engage and facilitate student success in an online environment. The OLA educator will use national accredited online curriculum as well as OLA approved applications to support student learning. The OLA educator tracks and analyzes student performance data and develops learning plans, using resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, language backgrounds and special needs.
Successful K-12 candidates will teach their grade level or content area. In grades 6-12, the OLA educator may also teach one or more electives/CTE courses. Endorsements may be required for some electives. The PPS Online Learning Academy is a fully online K-12 program. Students work both synchronously and asynchronously. Rather than the GVC, educators are required to use the PPS Online Learning Academy curriculum in accordance with the program guidelines.
PPS Online Learning Academy is a proficiency-based online program. Depending on the grade level, students may be able to work at their own pace and attend daily synchronous work sessions with their OLA educators. The role of the OLA educator includes delivering large and small group instruction as well as one-on-one instruction, providing highly effective feedback in writing and video format, and maintaining academic partnerships with students. In this model educators use and adapt national digital curriculum to meet the needs of the students and requirements of the school.
2021-22: PPS is opening a Virtual Scholars School within the Virtual Scholars Department. Starting a new school will require high levels of training, organization, adaptability, and flexibility. These qualities are even more critical because we must ramp up very quickly to begin this important and exciting project.
Almost all of the curriculum used for live lessons and asynchronous lessons are selected from national digital online courses. In addition, because the school relies heavily on technology, we are seeking to hire candidates with strong tech skills, video skills, and LMS experience. Currently the LMS to be used is BUZZ from Agilix with some use of the Virtual Scholars Canvas. Some of the other technology tools we use in Virtual Scholars are Zoom, LiveChat,YouTube, ScreencastOMatic, Loom, Google Sheets/Docs/Slides, as well as Google Chat.

• Implement proficiency-based teaching and learning in alignment with OLA Grading Practices.

• Utilize the OLA learning management system and all digital tools required by PPS Online Learning Academy, including the production of both audio and video materials for students.
